Too soon for HP-UX 11.23?

Too soon for HP-UX 11.23?

Mike,

I've never tried copying over the Oracle software from one server to
another.  Basically I just reinstall from the cd's.  But having been
through minor OS version upgrades that were done in place, no that will
not work without some extra work.  Basically you want to relink the
Oracle executables.  Look in $ORACLE_HOME/lib.  There are a bunch of .mk
files there that will do the bulk of the work for you, although I'd
recommend reloading from cd.  Also We're using HP-UX 11.0 & 11.1 on
8.1.7.4 and 9.2, no problems.  But if at all possible try to steer clear
of 8.1.6.  Too many nasty bugs that like to bite you in the middle of
the night.  Stuff like ORA-00600 (See ORA-00600.ora-code.com) with PMON then crashing the instance.
8.1.7.4 is stable, none of that odd behavior, but it is also not
supported anymore either.

Subject: Too soon for HP-UX 11.23?

When I asked my first question about how good HP-UX 11.23 was, I only
got one hit.

What version is everyone else currently running?

Right now, the production server is: "HP-UX ga016afe B.11.11".

I don't mind going newer, but I would hate this to be a "show stopper"
if our production machines won't install.

Also, AURGH!!! They want me to install Oracle 8.1.6 on this box. I'm
thinking that ain't gonna go, but who knows? I'm trying to discourage
that.

We also got the possibility of just copying all the software from the
old box to the new box, basically duplicating /u001 where the
$ORACLE_HOME is. But if the O/S changes, will that work?

Any "Been there, done that, you're (hosed/okay)" greatly appreciated.
